Echoes Cassina. 50 Years of the iMaestri Collection is an essential book for anyone interested in discovering how Cassina established itself as a producer of furniture that has made design history. Since 1965, Cassina has acquired the rights to the furniture designs of Le Corbusier, Perriand, and Jeanneret, including the iconic Chaise Longue. The company has continued to reissue modernist classics, adapting production techniques to technological advancements with a keen sensitivity to sustainability.
Since then, the Milanese company has created an ambitious line that includes historic designers such as Carlo Scarpa, Franco Albini and Vico Magistretti, to name a few.
This book collects all the works of the Masters in the Cassina collection, along with illustrations, photos, images, and curatorial essays that explain the producer’s approach to the great classics of the past.
It was presented at the 2023 Fuorisalone during the Echoes Cassina exhibition curated by Cassina’s creative director Patricia Urquiola and Federica Sala.
I MAESTRI COLLECTION
Over the past fifty years, the Cassina iMaestri Collection has brought together the works of the most important architects and designers of the 20th century. Perhaps too revolutionary for their time and often met with resistance, these iconic models of artistic expression are now reinterpreted through a lengthy process of study, research, and development made possible by Cassina’s expertise.
Since 1973, Cassina has embraced pioneering international designers of the Modern Movement, from key figures like Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand to Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Gerrit Thomas Rietveld.
In the past fifteen years, the collection has grown to include names like Franco Albini, Giacomo Balla, Ico Parisi, and Marco Zanuso, and as of April 2023, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, it has welcomed Vico Magistretti, Gio Ponti, Carlo Scarpa, and, with plans to launch some lighting models in 2024, Charles and Ray Eames.
This volume aims to highlight the unique method by which Cassina reintroduces the great classics of these Masters, through the research and analysis of archival materials, annotated sketches, drawings, historical images, and a series of photographs commissioned for the occasion, along with curatorial essays.
